About Us | Tinkering Toolbox

Our Mission

At Tinkering Toolbox, we believe good work starts with doing things the right way — and that means more than just swinging hammers and tightening bolts.

We operate under the most current versions of the International Residential Code (IRC) and Pennsylvania Uniform Construction Code (PA UCC), as adopted by Erie County. We maintain both digital and printed codebooks, and we actively reference them when planning and executing projects. Our work isn’t based on guesswork or old habits — it’s based on current law, industry standards, and verified sources.

We are not the handyman of a bygone era relying on tricks passed down at the hardware store. We’re part of a new generation of tradespeople: modern, tech-driven, AI-augmented, and always learning. From tool investments to digital scheduling to code research — we take our profession seriously.

We are also human. We’ve made mistakes in the past — and we might make them again. But when we do, we own it, and we work hard to make it right. That’s what integrity means to us: not pretending to be perfect, but showing up with accountability and a commitment to doing better every day.

We price our services based on local economic data, national cost guidelines, and our actual operating expenses — not guesswork or undercutting competitors. From fuel to insurance to quality tools and skilled labor, every dollar we charge goes toward making sure the work is done right, legally, and sustainably.

Why Code Compliance Matters

Code compliance isn’t red tape — it’s the foundation of safe, legal, and resilient repairs.

  • It ensures your home remains insurable, inspectable, and marketable
  • It protects against fire, leaks, structural damage, and legal liability
  • It gives you peace of mind that the job won’t need to be redone later

Shortcuts may cost less up front, but they can lead to costly repairs, insurance issues, or failed inspections. That’s not how we work. We build it right the first time — or not at all.
